The Fellowship of the Ring (Part 4) – Breaking the Fellowship and the Road to Mount Doom

Posted at # Books # Summaries

As the Fellowship approaches the end of their journey, the tension among the members becomes unbearable. The differences in their goals and beliefs come to a head, and a critical decision is made that will change everything. Frodo, realizing that the Ring must not fall into anyone else’s hands, decides to go on alone. He understands that the only way to destroy the Ring is to carry it to Mount Doom himself.

Sam, ever loyal, insists on accompanying Frodo, and the two set off together, leaving behind the rest of the Fellowship. Meanwhile, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli decide to continue their mission to protect the realms of Men, and they pursue the captured Merry and Pippin, who have been taken by orcs.

Boromir, however, is unable to let go of his desire for the Ring. In a moment of weakness, he tries to take it from Frodo, leading to a violent confrontation. Frodo escapes, but Boromir is mortally wounded during an orc attack, and he dies in the arms of Aragorn, seeking redemption for his actions.

The Fellowship is officially broken, and Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone. They enter the wilds of Middle-earth, navigating treacherous landscapes, avoiding the watchful eyes of Sauron’s forces, and facing constant threats from the dark creatures that roam the land.

But Frodo’s burden becomes heavier with each passing day, and Sam’s loyalty and friendship are his only solace. The two hobbits are determined to reach Mount Doom, no matter the cost, knowing that the fate of Middle-earth rests in their hands.

The road to Mount Doom is long and fraught with dangers, but the journey of the Ringbearer has only just begun. Their path is uncertain, and the shadow of Sauron looms ever closer, but Frodo and Sam press forward with courage and hope, holding on to the belief that the Ring must be destroyed—no matter what it takes.
